This group has been created to spearhead the West Virginia Young Democrats (WVYD) effort to fight for health insurance and health care reform in the United States.
As an organization dedicated to promoting the ideals of the Democratic Party and educating our fellow West Virginians about issues and policies impacting our great state, it is not only WVYD's duty to rise to this fight but an honor to work alongside so many of our fellow countrymen in advancing this most important initiative.
Therefore, let it be announced that all West Virginians, Young Democrats or otherwise, are welcomed to join us in fighting back against those that would spew out lies to further a partisan agenda or in order to maintain the stranglehold of the health industrial complex in profiteering off the sick and disabled.

WV Young Democrats Health Care Resolution
WVYD Health Care Reform Resolution
WHEREAS, health care is a Right that should be afforded to all
Americans, in that the Constitution of the United States of America
clearly states that all people are created equal, that they are
endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among
these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness; and
WHEREAS, equitable and quality health care is essential to Life,
Liberty cannot be achieved while plagued with sickness; and Pursuit of
Happiness is impossible without health care for one and one's family;
and
WHEREAS, access to quality health care is essential for the good
health and productivity of every West Virginian and American citizen
and qualifies as a human right, not a privilege; and
WHEREAS, the steadily increasing cost of accessing health care is
causing financial individual hardships, bankruptcy, and mortgage
foreclosures; and
WHEREAS, increasing health care costs are causing businesses to be
uncompetitive in the world market and causing many businesses to
further outsource American jobs, causing intense hardship on the
Middle Class; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. spends much more for health care per capita and as a
percentage of GDP than any other nation in the world ; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. has approximately 45 million uninsured and millions
more underinsured; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. has demonstrably inferior health care outcomes, even
for the insured, including, but not limited to, childhood mortality,
lower life expectancy, and high rates of chronic disease, which not
only shortens life but lessens the quality of life of millions of
Americans ; and
WHEREAS, the use of health information technology, including but not
limited to, electronic health records, e-prescribing, health
information exchange, and automated patient error reporting systems
will give providers the essential means for more cost effective
medical management and higher quality patient care; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the West Virginia Young Democrats
support health care reform that provides health coverage for all
Americans, lowers health care costs, improves the quality of health
care and maintains choice for individual health care decisions; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that such a system include a public plan with
a sliding fee scale so that all citizens are guaranteed their right to
affordable health care. |
